2.5m Telescope Maintenance Checklist

The following is a checklist of scheduled maintenance tasks for the systems of the SDSS telescopes, optics, or plate plugging. If a task does not appear and you would like to add, please contact French Leger, Telescope Engineer.

Air line filters	inspect,change as needed
Axis drive surfaces	inspect, clean, lub w/WD-40
Coolant pump dip cans	empty as needed
Coolant resevoirs	maintain level above minimum
Desiccants	inspect, dry as needed
Fiducials	inspect, clean as needed
Gr5 N2	replenish as needed
LN2 dewars	replenish as needed
N2 bottles	replenish as needed
PMSS air pressures	notify eng staff if abnormal
Splitter chassis	notify eng staff if any interlocks by-passed

Astigmatism actuators		check pressure
Az and rotator "flip-flop' switch		check for alignment tightness
Counterweight		inspect drive nuts
Linde cart side thrust wheels		visual check
WB alt drive chain		visual check
WB-telescope alignment		visual check

Air receiver tanks			check for moisture
Optics			CO2 clean mirrors and corrector lens

Cartridge fibers				inspect and repair at end of dark run
Dog house door				inspect for alighment,wear
Imager operations cart				inspect for air leaks
ODH sensors				test gas check; last conducted 2/1/02
ODH sensors				calibrate; last performed 12/15/01
Plugging station				inspect fasteners/safety latches for tightness
Rotator utility wrap				inspect for wear,damage,alignment
Telescope kinematics				check for tightness

15 deg stop					inspect and lube
AC system					inspect fan belts,replace as needed
FF screen drive sprockets					adjust or reset; last done 3/12/02
FF screen power relay					replace
FF screen worm gears					inspect and lube
LN2 dewar scales					inspect scale mounts
Manipulator drive racks					inspect and lube
UPS batteries					test

Axis drive motors						inspect,clean,lube
Az bearing						inspect,lube
Az/Alt brakes						inspect,clean,lube
Cam followers						lube on axis drives and supports
Cartridge scissors lift						inspect and lube
Cat house						inspect guide/lift system for wear/damage and lube
Cone fans						inspect
Counterweight drive couplings						inspect for slippage; adjusted 2/25/02
Electrical and electronic equipment						clean cooling fans and screens
Emergency close winches						inspect,lube,test
Enclosure power sliders						inspect for damage/wear
Enclosure trucks						inspect,lube gears, gear boxes, and cam followers
Enclosure weather seals						inspect
Instrument lift hydraulic pump						change oil filter
Interlocks						test sensors and system functionality
Lenses						clean SC and CC
M1/M2 Mitutoyo linear gauge						change batteries; last installed 10/15/01
Manipulators						inspect and lube
PT dome power slip rings						inspect and clean
Rotator bearings						inspect,lube
WB alt drive chain						inspect,lube
WB az drive						inspect,lube gears,cam followers,motors
Wind sensors						inspect for wear

FF lamps							replace
Mapper laser heads							inspect for wear,lube
Mirror position actuators							inspect,lube
Overhead crane							inspect,clean,lube,load test
Rotating floor rub buttons							inspect for dmage/excessive wear
WB - telescope							clean
WB alt drive motor							inspect,clean,lube gear head
